Free-spirited and outspoken, she could never settle for the cards life has dealt her. She is the creative brain of the group, leading them through the unknown toward freedom.

Tudor is Adria's boyfriend, partner, and supporter. He is also the voice of reason who both anchors and challenges her.

Adria's mum is a hard and cold woman, embodying the image of traditional women in a communist regime, influenced by the church. They were solely responsible for maintaining a good family image to keep gossip and the militia away.

Adria's dad had a close relationship with her, as they were very much alike—both free spirits trapped in a cage. His death becomes the catalyst for Adria to take the leap and pursue her dreams.

Mircea is Darrin's childhood friend and a suspected communist. He is known as the puppeteer. 

Andrei is Mircea's son. He and Adria grew up together, dreaming of freedom. He and his wife, Ioana join the gang on their adventure.

Ioana is the newest addition to the group. 

Adria and her group cross paths with Lucky and his two friends on the train from Warsaw to Görlitz. Their features and specific clothing reveal them as Romanians.

Lucky is of mixed Roma and Caucasian heritage. His lighter skin often makes him feel out of place in both cultures: he is too light-skinned to be fully accepted by the Roma, yet his features are too Roma-like for the white Romanians to fully embrace. Adria, who has also struggled to find a place where she belongs due to feeling alienated by the communist system, bonds closely with Lucky over their shared sense of not fitting in

Radu and his brother Mihai are Lucky's friends and they all join Adria's group on their adventure.

The gang faces real danger when they are arrested and brought for interrogations on the east side of the recently fallen Berlin wall.
